TRAI regulations: prepare before sending SMS.

Business SMS in India needs more than a contact list. TRAI’s Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations (TCCCPR), 2018, as amended, set the framework for commercial communication using telecom networks.

REVIEWED 9 OCTOBER 2026

View the full SMS checklist
  1. Register the business sender

Prepare for Principal Entity (PE) registration through a telecom provider’s DLT platform, plus the registered sender header and content templates required for your use case.

  2. Respect consent and preferences

Use the correct message category and honor recipient preferences, required consent and opt-outs. A phone number alone does not establish permission to send.

  3. Check templates before launch

Confirm template IDs, variable tags and any required link or callback-number whitelisting with the provider. Registration on MessageIQ does not complete these checks.

General preparation guidance, not legal advice, a compliance determination or a claim of TRAI approval. Confirm current requirements with your telecom provider and qualified advisers. MessageIQ currently provides account preparation for assisted activation—not message sending, DLT validation or regulatory certification.
